The Pirates of Penzance Auditions
March 8-10, 2019
Chicago and Madison

In 2019-2020, Opera for the Young will perform 200 shows in elementary schools throughout the upper Midwest. (Score adapted by William Lutes and Diane Garton Edie)

Pirates is a 45-minute show with triple-cast roles for soprano (Mabel), mezzo soprano (Ruth), tenor (Frederic), and baritone (double role: Pirate King and Major General). Cast includes three coach/accompanists.

Cast members drive the tour van, load and unload set pieces, and field audience questions. Additionally, they train student performers who play chorus and cameo roles. There are typically two shows per day/7-10 shows per week. Compensation is $55 - $60 per show plus $29.50 per diem and travel/lodging while on tour. In addition, each artist receives lodging and $425 for the rehearsal period which runs for a week in mid-October 2019. The tour runs October 2019 to mid-May 2020 with a two month holiday break. Due to each role being triple cast, artists generally are on tour 5-8 weeks. Space is limited, early submission is encouraged!
